Is Zeal safe?

Full control of your funds with secure Passkeys, biometrics and cloud recovery while being totally self-custodial.

You’re in complete control of your funds

Zeal is self-custodial — only you have control over your funds. No person, company, or government can access your assets. With this control comes responsibility: your account security is in your hands. But unlike traditional self-custodial services, Zeal includes innovations that make self-custody easier and safer.

Secured with Passkeys and biometrics

Your Zeal account is secured by Passkeys — the next generation of passwords used by leading technology and financial companies. Passkeys are far more resistant to hacking because they’re encrypted on your physical device and protected by your biometrics. You can securely recover them from the cloud through your Passkey provider or password manager.

Recovering your Zeal account

When you set up a Zeal account, a unique Passkey is created and stored in the cloud. We recommend using your device’s default Passkey provider, such as Apple or Google, though you can also use a password manager. If you lose your device, you can recover your Zeal account by logging into the same provider account (e.g., Apple ID or Google account) and accessing your Passkey — Zeal will recognize it automatically.

The risks of self-custody

Self-custody means full control, but also full responsibility. If you lose access to your Passkey, you will lose access to your Zeal account and funds. To prevent this, we strongly recommend using trusted Passkey providers like Apple or Google and ensuring your Passkeys are backed up to the cloud (this is enabled by default). Do not manually delete or modify Passkeys on any of your devices — doing so may remove them from cloud storage and permanently lock you out of Zeal.
